Sirolo, Italy

I came to Sirolo in June 2008, it was my first trip abroad with my father whose side of the family live over here most the year. We came to celebrate me finishing school, as I did not want to go to prom - who would wanna go to prom when you can go to Italy instead, it's a no brainer! haha &, we were also celebrating dad getting a new kidney after many many years on the transplant list, and what a celebratory week we both had. The memories made will stick with me forever, and I will cherish them always.

I hadn't been to Italy beforehand, and gosh it didn't disappoint - I highly recommend it to anyone. It has outstanding natural beauty, amazing food - if you don't like Italian food you're crazy! & the drinks were constantly flowing. Not only that, the weather is phenomenal especially during the summer months.

During the summer months you can expect temperatures to reach the high 20's sometimes even going up to the high 30's, during the winter you can expect temperatures of around 10c.

We flew into FRL (Forli) from BHX, which was a new route Ryanair was test running so the flights were ridiculously cheap, and couldn't be missed out on. The flight took approx 4 hours. Unfortunately they are no longer running the direct flights to Forli.

When I arrived at FRL I travelled with dad via taxi to the train station, then go on the train from there onwards to Bologna, where we were collected by my Uncle to drive us onto Sirolo which took around 1 hour up through the mountains.

Sirolo is a beautiful small village based in the Provence of Ancona, which would be the closest airport to travel into if you are wanting to head towards this area of Italy. This beautiful little village is full of history, gorgeous old buildings and very little English which I loved. The majority of tourists it gets are either German, or Italians themselves just looking to escape the hustle and bustle of the main cities.

You can easily get around via bus, taxi, scooter or even renting a car to take you into the neighbouring areas or further out if you wanted to go explore a lot more.

Me and Dad are both sun worshipers so we spent everyday down the beach, taking in the sun, eating good food and enjoying a nice drink. With the beach being down the cliff and dad only having one leg it was a lot easier for us to get the bus down, instead of walking down as this would have caused issues for dads stump. The bus was simple enough to get and only cost 1Euro, and it ran on a regular basis, the journey was approx 10 minutes from the main square.

In the evenings we would spend our time up in the main square enjoying a good meal and some drinks before heading down towards the house and going into the Wish bar which was owned by my uncle at the time for a few drinks and to spend time with the family.

We also went for walks along the beach, around the cliff front to the next beach along and went kayaking around the reef. There is a sea wall which is man made to assist with preventing cliff erosion from the sea.
