Caleta De Fuste, Fuerteventura, Canaries

What to even say about this Island - Personally I don't like the place, it has some beautiful areas but its far to windy for me to manage as I am not one for being cold, but it could be the perfect place for some of you who prefer cooler climates, even with it being in the Canaries, its the cooler island of the group and named the windy island.

The flight from BRS to FUE is approx 4 hours long, and I found It to be a bumpy one, due to the weather. Whilst there you can travel up or down the island via transfer or rent a car to take you to your accommodation. When stayed here I stayed local to the airport, so my transfer only took approx 10 minutes if that.

I came to Caleta on a self catering basis, which I enjoyed as it meant I could make my own food, and just go at my own pace, however I did eat out on the evenings, and when in Spain - Tapas is a must.

During the days I found it a little bit too cold for me, so I stayed clothed the majority of the time and away from the sea front because I didn't want to battle the wind chill. On numerous occasions I decided to play tennis in the midday heat to try to warm up. However I know some people who have been to the island who found it absolutely fine, and got on with the heat and wind there perfectly fine, so I don't know if it was just a bad year weather wise when I went. I travelled over in July 2010, and probably wouldn't do it again, unless I was seriously convinced by someone to go with them.

The temperatures in the summer with highs of approx 25c and in the winter months 18c, during the summer there are lows of approx 15c and the winter of approx 12c. However due to the winds these temperatures can feel cooler, so I always recommend taking a light jacket. The best time to travel here for the weather is between June and September, but its a very popular island in the winter months also with it having all year around sun, and being warmer than the UK - which isn't difficult.

The island is very popular for its water sports especially windsurfing. You can travel to different areas of the country pretty easily via coach, or you can book to do excursions and travel with them, some of the recommended places to visit are:

Corralejo, which is known for its outstanding beauty.

Ajuy Caves

Jandia

Morro Jable Lighthouse

Volcano Calderon Hondo

It is also a popular island for families, with numerous things you can do with the children and still get to explore at the same time or you can just stay in you local area and chill by the pool whilst the children play in the parks and swim in the pools themselves, or head to the beaches.

You can also get the ferries or island hopper plane over to the different islands near by, Lanzarote being the closest.
